This recent study builds on the case against bisphenol A. As a hormone disruptor, bisphenol A has been under scrutiny for the past year as a toxic chemical in polycarbonate plastic baby bottles and reusable drinking bottles, however, growing evidence shows that we are exposed to higher levels of bisphenol A from the canned foods we eat. Health Canada has also tested canned liquid baby formula and found bisphenol A in every sample at levels associated with adverse health effects in animal studies.

Tip of the iceberg

The concern around bisphenol A is not what many are calling ‘plasticphobia’ or even a more general ‘panic.’ We are understanding chemicals in a new way. We are gaining knowledge about reckless consumption and use of new substances and their effects on our bodies and the environment. So as our awareness grows we will hopefully start changing the way we eat, live, play and work. Not because we are afraid of suspected toxic effects, but because we are want to live better.
